UK jobseekers dream of being their own boss

Our colleagues over at Reed Employment have revealed some interesting trends about the jobs we dream about and it seems that working for ourselves tops the list.

A survey of over 2,000 jobseekers found that more people want to become entrepreneurs than anything else. Becoming a pilot or astronaut, a more conventional childhood ambition, was second in the dream job list.

At the other end of the spectrum, the least favourite jobs were politicians, plumbers and dentists.

Here are the UK’s Top 10 Dream Jobs:

1. Business owner
2. Pilot/astronaut
3. Accountant
4. Teacher
5. Air hostess/cabin crew
6. Writer
7. Vet
8. Policeman
9. Banking
10. Law

The survey also reveals the importance of money in choosing a career, further underlining the findings of reed.co.uk’s own research, earlier this year. Financial reward was considered the most important factor according to 68% of respondents, with less than 40% considering career progression when choosing their next job.

Find out whether you're being paid enough or if it's time to go it alone with reed.co.uk's Salary Calculator.
