You’re hired! Surge in apprenticeships as employers turn to grassroots talent

UK employers are taking on apprentices in unprecedented numbers as the economy gathers pace, according to new figures released by reed.co.uk. So far in 2014, the number of apprenticeships available each month has grown by more than 87% compared to the 2013 average. The growth in apprenticeships is not confined to traditional trades and labour. Of the 944 apprenticeships posted on reed.co.uk in May, 370 were in Business & Administration and 243 were in IT & Telecoms. The biggest year-on-year increases were in the Retail (+483%) and Construction & Property sectors (+360%). The surge in apprenticeships comes against a backdrop of recovery across the jobs market, with a 24% annual rise in all new jobs available during May.
